OT...

Operating theatre that is, not a theatre that is functioning but rather a place where surgery takes place.

Ended my short one week attachment today, it was truly an eye opening experience. During the one week, me and my school mates have to assist in at least one of the minor sugeries which was the crux of this attachment. The medical term of this assistance is "scrub", e.g I'm scrubbing a case today or have you scrub any case?

I got to scrub for a case of closure of ileostomy. I was rather anxious before the procedure, as we were told that surgeons were rather impatient with rookies, esp students. And to make matter worst, we were fed horror stories of how we will be shouted at if we happened to be just a little slow and how some of the students cried. Thank goodness the accompanying senior staff nurse was rather nice and was by my side guiding me. I stood just next to the surgeons and handed them the instruments on cue. Even though I did prepared myself the night before by reading up on some of the instruments, it still took me a while to process the infor when the surgeons asked for a particular instrument. Luckily none of those horror stories were true, at least in this procedure.

Hmm..I just might opt for OT posting when I graduate, time will tell.....

KL Trip

Was over at KL with some classmates of mine, it was a brand new experience for moi as I have nver travelled with them before. :)This trip also marked the first time I have never taken a complete group photo. oh well...

Did the usual like any self respecting singaporean will do...shop lah, eat lah, bargain lah...

Most of my classmates suffered from this illness called 'photophobia', which meant most of the time, they detest having their pictures taken. Hmmm...I think one of them told me before that he/she don't look good in photos. Er... if I wan to take beautiful people, I will be taking some models liao. I myself also dun look good wat, chey! I think it's more like playing hard to get... ha ha.

After a while , I felt like the paparazzi, cos everytime I whipped out the camera, their hands will move to cover thier face and they will turn their backs toward the camera. After a while I kinda like give up, we are on holiday leh......

The pics on the right....

The first one at the top was the roller coaster that we didn't managed to try, we were leaving on that day at 1pm and they were not open even at 11am.

The 2nd one is the place we had our breakfast...for those who do not know, the old chinatown town was something like that.

3rd one, Chee Cheong Fun!!!! a tad too sweet though.

'Sway'

Went over to NTU yesterday to collect my spanking new ibook. Was a damned good deal, discounted price with additional ram and 3 year warranty and a carrying case. But darned, at collection point I was told I wasn't eligible for the carrying case as I'm not a NTU student. I was also told that actually I was not eligible for such a big discount, the lady said the t & c was stated clearly in the website. NB lah, when payment was made nothing was mention.
Very typical, before you pay got mountain got sea, after payment then give u hill and longkang only.....

Head in books

It's a beautiful sunday afternoon, the weather is perfect for a nice tan at the pool or by the beach......but darn...here I am, in campus studying for my upcoming test on wed....arrrgghhhh. (blogging now using the wireless internet, the wonders of technology)

Why not study at home, u may ask, well simply becos I can't. There are just too many distractions at home, tv, dvd, movies, hbo, cinemax, starmovies and my cosy bed etc. Aiyah, just not discipline lah.

Hmmm....usually there will some students around, but not a soul is insight now. (see pic, taken by phone & transfer via bluetooth :) i'm such a sucker for technology..)

Overkill

Have been using this word a lot this semester. This was coined by the beer belly hypocrite in my class. The one in the group of rejects with the american twang.

It all started at one of my group's presentations last year, we did a short video and got good comments from the lecturer. After the presentation, this person approached me and said it was a wonderful job blah blah and even go as far as asking me what software I used etc.

But, during our hospital attachment where we got to work with people from other classes. He went around and actually told others that our group's work was an overkill, and fabricated some lies about my group leader. Eventually the news reached some members of our group. Although he did apologized to my group leader, my group leader told him that despite what he said we will still continue to overkill in our presentations, ha ha....so that was how this word got popular.

Found out much later that he was simply jealous, as both of us have graphic design background. Somehow his experience of such was never utilised in any of his group's presentation, and I heard that he would say things like, "I could have done that!".

This phrase aptly put it : Empty vessels make the most noise.

Tired

Three weeks more to the end of the semester, yet there are tons of unfinished tests and presentations. 2 presentations, 1 skills practical test, 1 skills theory test and 1 bio practical/theory test combo. On top of that, there are still on going tutorials.

I need a break so bad....... :(
