Rain

Wanted to go for a swim today, but, the pool is going to be closed from 7am to 5pm for the school's swimming meet. Need to close for so long meh? Synchronised swimming isit? Ha ha, anyway it's raining like cats and dogs now, so goes the swimming meet!!!

Heh heh heh, heh heh heh. (evil laughter)

My first encounter with HTML

<_div>
See the mood thingy on the left? It took me 3 bloody hours to get it into the right place!! To do it, I actually have to fiddle with the html code in the template.......with
Chooeypoo's (not chewable shit!) help. After some back and forth exchanges over msn messenger, I was able to get it to work, THANK YOU, O WISE ONE!!!

The only time I ever came close was working with WYSIWYG webpage softwares like Golive and Dreamweaver. Even then, I didn't even look at the html codes, just the graphics aspect.

Now, I can understand her obsession to get her blog's template right. :)
Ok, time to hit the sack......before I forget. <_/div>

ps: have to put the underscore, if not the html thingy won't appear, ok.

BCLS

It's a medical abbreviation for Basic Cardiac Life Support. When a person, like goes unconscious and can't breathe etc... then you'll have to put your mouth on their mouth and then stick your tongue in and frolick....oops sorry digressed, what I meant was resuscitation. Still dun know? Pls go google it. And fyi, the test was conducted on mannequins, a device is attached to them to measure the volume of air, amount of pressure and the duration taken during the course of the rescue.

Anyway, I took the test on tuesday and I flunked!!!!!! I can't believe it!!!! Although it carried no marks or watsoever towards our academic result, it seriously put a dent in yours truly's ego. I may not be good in my academic studies, but I always pride myself that I'm better in hands on skills (yes, hands on skills... ;)). I felt scarred, hurt, bruised and lost all the strength to face the world. At first I was afraid I was petrified....si beh drama ...and then.... I got over it like in 5 mins.

I found out that even the saints, demigods and the immortals in entire cohort also failed! Ha! If they also failed, where would that placed a mere mortal like myself? Moreover, I was the tenth or so person in a entire cohort of 92 students who flunk, and no 2nd attempt was given. Another factor, was also the mannequins, they are abt 8 or 9 of them and they come from different manufacturers, so naturally some are more sensitive to pressure than others.

What made me felt better was the fact that over the course of the next few days, I found out that others that passed were given at least abt 3 chances, some even 5! And the tester told me "only one chance!" Cheh!

The sian part is attending the remedial class this afternoon, just so to obtain a signature to qualified me for the retest. Hello! I already know the procedures, just that I wasn't given another chance.

Good thing that it's the weekend already. Now, just to brace myself for the 're-match' on monday, heeyah!!!

ps: for those who dun know me, that is not me in the photo, not the one bending down behind and definitely not the 'thunder' thighs on the left side, i'm just...... not in the picture.

Movies - Sin City & Crash

Saw 2 movies the past week, Sin City and Crash. Both from different genres but highly enjoyable.

Sin City
In my opinion, it's one of the most inventive comic book adaptation ever brought on to the big screen. Even the dialogues were taken from the comic word for word. Although it does come across as awkward in a few small scenes, the amazing visuals more than compensated for it. It is also extremely violent, hence the M21 rating.

With this kind of movie, there is always a worry of style over substance, but thankfully it is not evident here. I must agree that it is not a movie for everyone, but believe me if you give it a go, you just might be pleasantly rewarded. :)

There's 3 stories woven together, although the main characters never got to interact with one another.
Story 1, retiring cop(Bruce Willis) gets involved in a serial killer/rapist case. He managed to save the 11 year girl, but pays a huge price for it.
Story 2, an ugly man(Mickey Rourke) finds comfort in a beautiful lady only to find her dead the next morning. Worst, he gets framed for it. He is determined to avenge her and along the way stumbles upon a cannibal and a corrupted official.
Story 3, A man(Clive Owen) helps a group of prostitutes when they accidentally killed a twisted slimeball policeman. The death of the policeman threatens an order of truce between the mob, the police and the prostitutes' territory.

Actually it's quite similar to films by Quentin Tarantino such as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. So if you like any of them, you will like this movie.

For myself, I can't wait for the two sequels in the pipeline. :)

Crash
Wah, really really like this movie! Genre wise, it falls under the intense drama category. I just love how all the interlocking characters were placed together and yet the film remained so focused on one theme, racism. It's not just abt Whites, other races like Latinos, Iranians, Blacks, cops and criminals are all involve in one way or another. All are the victims and all are guilty of it!

I am amazed by how the writer/director can tell such intense stories with the variety of characters and their relatively short screen time, and yet at the same time, he makes you feel for everyone of them. This is really great script writing, something which the local films sorely lack. The director Paul Haggis wrote the Oscar winning Million Dollar Baby, this is just his directorial debut, really have to kowtow to him. :)

One thing I dislike abt some of Jack Neo's movies is that he likes to preach 'in your face' messages abt moral and ethical issues which repulses most of the audience(like me lah). In this movie, you learn abt important issues, but without any preaching or 'drilling'. This I suppose is the art of subtlety.

I really, really highly recommend this film to anyone who has the time to go watch it. (esp. If u had seen the lame War of the Worlds) It might not make everyone a better person, but at least you will learn to be more forgiving and patient, and hopefully, at the same time be entertained! :)

Sat Morning blues

Got up at 615am on a sat morning, damn sian man. Decided to take the bus instead, the bus stop is so much nearer than the Mrt stn. Further more, I have to navigate thru the amk central's labyrinth of the never ending upgrading works. Too early for this kind of crap that requires me to think...yawn.

Waited abt 10 mins for the bus and arrrghhh.... it's a single deck. I like double deck, because double decks are usually empty in the morning. Boarded the packed bus, immediately I can see the "tu lan faces", guess I'm not the only one that have to work on a sat morning. Suddenly I feel so much better as I hear the birds chirping in the background.

Some of the Ah Sohs also displayed a combo expression, "tu lan cum deprived" faces, must be becos didn't manage to get any from the husband the night before, heh heh. You want to know how the cold weather in europe is like? Take the bus in the morning, now I know why they raised the bus fare lor. Halfway through the journey, it started to rain heavily, fuck man, even colderer somemore!

Finally, the bus pulls into the interchange, if not ah, I think my family jewels also will be frozen liao. But wah....when the doors opened, I realized there's no shelter above! With all the money they spent on renovating this interchange, you would think that they won't forgo something this fundamental, right? Nahbeh, cold and wet now......
